Alex is a passionate therapist who is Autistic and ADHD (AuDHD), and has discovered that they are part of the hypermobility family. They grew up feeling like they never quite 'fit in' and realised they saw the world differently from the vast majority —except for their friends, who, it turns out, are all, to some degree, neurospicy.
Alex started out working with kids; however, after the opportunity to work with neurodivergent older teens and adults, they realised they had found their 'zone.' Initially, they were wary of disclosing their neurodivergence; however, they noticed a positive shift when they opened up, revealing their shared neurokin identity. This honesty allowed others to feel heard, seen, and believed regarding their perspectives, experiences, and challenges.
They noticed that their clients’ challenges resonated with them, especially in discussions centred on self-understanding and on how our choices often reflect the expectations of others and societal norms rather than being driven by our own preferences, values, and intrinsic motivations.
This realisation inspired them to start Neurokin OT, where they embark on adventures exploring what it means to be neurodivergent in a world designed predominantly for allistics (non-autistics). They understand that diagnosis and self-diagnosis can dramatically alter our self-perceptions, and together, through assessments, reports, or therapy, they can explore the path forward.
